PUTRAJAYA, Jan 30 – Department of Civil Aviation Director-General Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman will appear on RTM1 at 6 pm today to make a statement on MH370. He was earlier scheduled to make a major announcement on the missing airliner at the DCA headquarters at 3.30pm.
However, it was called off. A representative from the Information Department, Jagjit Singh said this was “due to unforeseen circumstances” Several next-of-kin of the passengers also showed up at the conference, despite not being invited to attend the event. They include 41-year-old Lim Wee Hoon, who is the sister in-law of 46-year-old passenger Chan Huan Peen.
Lim said she decided to come to the conference after getting information that it would be held at the DCA’s headquarters in Presint 4, here. Asked whether an announcement to declare the plane as “missing” would help the families in terms of insurance claims among other matters,
Lim said “it might help”. Lim came with another woman, a Chinese national, who claimed to be the wife of a passenger. The woman, who only identified herself as Kelly, said she had been in Kuala Lumpur for several weeks to resolve a host of issues surrounding her missing husband. Other NOKs included Intan Maizura Othman, the wife of MAS steward Hazrin Hasnan.
