KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 – Incarcerated Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked his supporters to wipe away their tears and continue their fight. After visiting him at the Sungai Buloh prison today, his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, conveyed this message from him via her Facebook earlier.
Anwar also sent his condolences to the family of Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat over the latter’s passing last night. “The family just finished visiting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in prison. He sends his regards to the whole family, leaders, staff and supporters. “He urged to keep up spirits and to keep fighting. Don’t shed tears,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, PKR claimed that a statement had been obtained showing that Switzerland would address Anwar’s conviction at the next United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva. Quoting a statement allegedly by the Swiss Foreign Ministry, obtained by the Bruno Manser Fund, the ministry would also address Anwar’s conviction during the next round of bilateral political talks with Malaysia.
This, they said, was planned to be held in Switzerland later this year. “The Swiss embassy in Kuala Lumpur reminded the Malaysian authorities that Switzerland lends importance to the respect of the principles of the rule of law and fair trial,” read the statement. Attempts to call the Swiss embassy here to validate the statement have so far proven unsuccessful.
