BUKIT MERTAJAM, Feb 13 – A total of 21 construction sites in Klang have been identified as dengue breeding grounds. These sites have been issued with temporary closing order for two weeks until cleaning-up steps are carried out. The Health Ministry officials have been conducting frequent checks at construction sites and found out that the sites are the root cause for the rising dengue cases in Selangor, especially Klang.
This was following 17 dengue-related fatal cases recorded in Selangor last month, out of which 11 cases were reported from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, during his visit to HTAR on Wednesday said the emergency ward which can house 20 patients is now having 40 patients. “HTAR is cramped and crowded. People in Klang are diagnosed with dengue because construction sites have turned into dengue breeding platform lately.
“We will take stern actions on errant workers who fail to keep their construction sites clean and will make sure they do so before they can resume work,’ he said this morning after the launching of SYM1 Malaysia Bikers Club (1SMBC) at Universiti Teknologi Mara Permatang Pauh. Dengue cases in Selangor have risen 75 per cent with 6,686 cases recorded last month, including 17 death cases.
