KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 – The claims made by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar that her father, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was allegedly offered the deputy prime minister post is hard to be believed. Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin questioned the timing of the claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had offered Anwar the post after GE13.
“Why make this claim after two years?” Khairy asked after attending a luncheon organised by the Malay Economic Action Council (MTEM) and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, today. “We (BN) were the majority in the last elections, so why offer the number two post to someone who had lost?” he said, adding that while people should question if there was any truth behind the claims, he found it hard to believe.
Nurul Izzah had alleged at a ceramah in Seberang Jaya that Barisan Nasional (BN) had offered Anwar the deputy prime minister post. The Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament said on Saturday that the offer was allegedly turned down by her father when the condition was that he abandoned Pakatan Rakyat (PR) allies — DAP and PAS.
Khairy said Nurul Izzah had a record of not telling the truth following the lies she made against her contender for Lembah Pantai, Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal, a few days before GE13. “It had to be retracted based on the decision by the courts and to me I find this hard to believe.” he said.
Yesterday, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan had also slammed Nurul Izzah on her claims through his Twitter handle. “BN offering DPM post to Anwar who lost all four GEs in a row? Nurul, get a grip on yourself! #Drama,” Abdul Rahman had tweeted in response to Nurul Izzah’s claims.
