KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 – The Goods and Services Tax (GST)registration comes to a close at midnight tomorrow. Those having failed to register face a RM15,000 compound and be forcibly registered, said the Royal Customs Department in a statement Friday.
A crackdown under “Ops GST” will begin on March 1, with about 5,000 officers deployed, the department added. Under the GST regime, all businesses with a sales turnover of RM500,000 or more, are required to register, while those with less, can do so voluntarily. The registration deadline was originally set for Dec 31, 2014, before being extended to Feb 28. As of today, 325,279 companies had registered for the GST.
