PETALING JAYA, March 7 – A small group of protesters has gathered at the Central Market to take part in the #KitaLawan rally, which is set to take place at Sogo Shopping Complex at 4pm, Saturday. All the protesters were clad in black and said they planned to leave Central Market at 3pm for Sogo.
The group comprised members of non-governmental organisations and PKR members from Kuala Langat and Hulu Langat. Also present was social activist Hishamuddin Rais. It is understood that Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli will join the group at 3pm. The Saturday rally is expected to see three groups walking towards Sogo from the three meet-up points of Masjid Jamek, Central Market and PAS’s headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut.
At Masjid Jamek LRT station, meanwhile, another group have gathered to join in the protest. The demonstrators clad in black #kitalawan shirts, were seen carrying placards and intermittently shouting out “Reformasi” and “Bebas Anwar”. The #KitaLawan rally is intended as a show of support for Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and aims to pressure authorities to free the PKR leader who was jailed five years after being found guilty of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan
On Feb 28, the rally’s organisers rejected an offer from police to hold the rally at a stadium. Organisers have claimed that some 50 other organisations have pledged to participate in the gathering. On Wednesday, Dang Wangi district police chief Asst Comm Zainol Samah said organisers had yet to submit an application for the rally and warned the public against participating in it, as it is illegal.
