KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 9 – Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah were today accorded a warm welcome upon arrival at the Banquet Hall of the Parliament building for the opening of the third session of the 13th Parliament session. They were received on arrival by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia and Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were also in attendance to receive the Majesties. The Agong then inspected the guard of honour, comprising four officers and 30 men from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment. All elected MPs, with the exception of Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, are present.
Some PKR members of Parliament are seen wearing black instead, as a sign of protest against the decision not to allow Anwar to attend the sitting. Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail sentence at the Sungai Buloh prison. The Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to sit from March 9 to April 9 and the Dewan Negara, from April 13 to 28.
