KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has been arrested at the Dang Wangi police station, here, this afternoon, and will be sent to Travers police station. This was confirmed by PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil who told reporters outside Dang Wangi police station after receiving a phone call. “It is confirmed. She will be arrested and later sent to Travers police station,” said Fahmi. The Lembah Pantai parliamentarian came to the station earlier to give her statement with regards to the Opposition coalition’s Kita Lawan rallies and for sedition.
Fahmi earlier on had predicted the arrest. “Looking at the questioning, most probably Nurul Izzah will be sent to the lock-up today,” he told reporters earlier. Nurul Izzah in her speech in Parliament criticised the judiciary for sentencing her father, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to a five-year jail term for sodomy. When asked about how long Nurul Izzah would be detained, Fahmi said it is unknown yet at the moment.
