LANGKAWI, March 17 – A new aerospace blueprint will chart the growth of Malaysia’s aerospace industry till 2030, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today. In his opening speech at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition 2015 (Lima 2015), Najib said that the new blueprint is aimed at making Malaysia the number one aerospace nation in the region by 2030. “We launched the first aerospace blueprint in 1997, and since then Malaysia has come a long way.”
Najib said that the blueprint will lay out key initiatives to enable Malaysia to capture new markets and upgrade levels of industry sophistication. “The goals which we hope to reach will exceed RM32.5 billion in revenue and over 32,000 high income jobs.” Najib said that the blueprint will be implemented by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. In his speech, Najib said that despite the trend of lower global spending, forecasts indicate a growth in maritime and aviation spending in Asean in the coming years. This he explained made Lima a very significant market place for both the defence and commercial sectors. Also in attendance were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussien and former Prime Minister Tun Mahatir Mohamad.
