KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 – The office of online news portal The Malaysian Insider was raided this evening. Police and personnel from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were present during the raid. It is also learned that three, managing editor Lionel Morais, Bahasa news editor Amin Shah Iskandar and analysis editor Zulkifli Sulong were arrested.
This comes after an earlier report today that MCMC and the police were investigating a news portal over several reports. MCMC corporate communications head Sheikh Ahmad Raffie Sheikh Abdul Rahman said among the reports was one claiming that the Council of Rulers had opposed PAS’ Hudud Enactment, to pave the way for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
“The MCMC and police are working together to investigate the portal following reports lodged and after scrutinising reports in newspapers last Friday,” he said in a report published in Utusan Malaysia. Sheikh Ahmad Raffie said the investigations were conducted after the Officer of the Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal lodged a report denying the portal’s report.
