GEORGE TOWN, April 7 – Former senior police officer Assistant Superintendent L. Chandkumary, who was charged with intentionally releasing a ‘Casanova doctor’ claims she was ‘under his spell’. In her defense, the 57-year-old claimed she was hypnotized by K. Prabaharan, 45 , who was then in her custody and control, at the Penang court complex here, at 1.50pm on Oct 9, 2013.
Chandkumary was charged under Section 225A (1)(a) of the Penal Code which carries a three-year jail term, a fine or both, upon conviction for releasing a detainee. She was also charged with lodging a false report claiming that Prabharan had escaped on his own.
Chandkumary was charged under Section 182 of the same code which carries a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both for lodging a false police report. The accused is represented by Danny C. Nevarednam, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Fatimah Talib prosecuted. Hearing continues on Apr 27.
