KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 – Polling for the Rompin parliamentary by-election will be on May 5 while the nomination will be held on April 22. The by-election was called following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.Jamaluddin was killed in a helicopter crash in Semenyih last Saturday, along with five other people — principal private secretary to the prime minister Azlin Alias.

Businessman Tan Huat Seang, Jamaluddin’s bodyguard Razakan B. Seran, pilot Clifford William Fournier and operations assistant Aidana Baizieva. During the 13th General Election in May 2013, Jamaluddin, who was the chairman of the Housing Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA), retained the Rompin seat he had held for 23 years by beating former PAS’ Nuridah Mohd Salleh by a 15,114-vote majority.
