SUBANG JAYA, April 11 – There is no place for politics in sports, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said after demanding in no uncertain terms that the “Kita Lawan (We Will Fight)” slogan be replaced as the state contingent’s slogan for their campaign in next year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma). Taking the Selangor government to task for adopting the politically charged slogan for a sporting programme, the ruler called for sports in the state to be free of political influences.

He said the state government, sports associations and clubs should instead focus on arresting the state’s decline in the sporting arena. Speaking at the Selangor Sports Awards at a hotel here tonight, Sultan Sharafuddin called for the Selangor Sports Council to come up with a slogan that would not be related, in any manner, to political parties or activities. “It is a slogan that was adapted from a political party and I do not like it.”
