KOTA KINABALU, April 14 – A group of female students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Limbanak in Penampang became “instant celebrities” after their infamous fight went viral today. The 49 second video showed two groups of female students, one wearing the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) uniform and the other donned in the St John Ambulance (SJA) attire, were seen hitting each other before a male student stepped in to intervene.

It started with one girl in MRCS uniform hitting another wearing the SJA shirt repeatedly, before the victim’s friend came in to assist her. It is not known when the incident occurred, but one of the videos — posted by one Facebook user — garnered 13,227 viewers. Netizens posted angry comments over the video, with many advising the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of the incident. One Kens Yong, who posted the video on Facebook, noted that it had also been spread via WhatsApp and urged the SMK Limbanak teachers to take action or report the matter to the police.

Anita Suimin, who commented on the video, described the students as “stupid”, and that their parents should be called to teach them a lesson. Such behaviour, she added would affect the students, and stressed that the incident should not have happened in the first place. One Md Al’freedo commented: “Ada geng bah ni (there must be a gang).. but they must learn fighting is not the way to settle.” Lester J. Goldolin meanwhile wrote:

“Apa sdh jadi anak skrg? Om dari duluuuu pun belaku pergaduhan pelajar… Kawalan dari pihak sekolah hanya dlm sekolah saja.. Klu d public org awam sepatutnya memainkan peranan juga..” (What has happened to the children today? Student rivalry has long existed. The school administration’s control is restricted within the school compound only, so if it happens in public areas, then the people should play their role).

Sabah Education Department director Datuk Jame Alip, when contacted, declined to comment, adding that a report had been lodged and that the police were conducting their investigation into the matter. Please click on the link below to watch the video.
