GEORGETOWN, April 19 – The biggest Penang fashion shows was happening today at Gurney Paragon. Gurney Paragon Mall turns into a fashion sanctuary this April. Penang is the best known as thePearl of Orient and is rapidly becoming tourists” favourite travelling destination. Beautiful beaches, distinctive urban art and sumptuous street food have certainly set the city apart from the others.

This city has no short of fascinating events for the Penangites to be indulged in such as the annual George Town Festival, World Music Festival and the recent Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. Now it is the time for the emergence of the fashion industry in this great city and the inaugural Penang Fashion Week has its finger on the pulse.

Penang Fashion Week serves as a vital element to introduce Penang’s fashion to the rest of the world.It is the agent at the forefront of establishing Penang’s fashion industry on a global platform and designed to elevate, promote, appreciated showcasing talents in the local fashion industries.

It will be an excellent platform for Penang’s outstanding homegrown designers and local college students to showcase their collections. Penang Fashion Week also aims to give lifestyle enthusiasts an opportunity to gather and interact through this unique experience.

The opening gala of the Penang Fashion Week was held on 19th April 2015. Among the VVIPs that graced the night were the Duputy chief minister of Penang, YB Dato’ Haji Mohd. Rashid bin Hasnon, the world renowned shoemaker, Datuk Jimmy Choo and Malaysia’s super model cum actress, Amber Chia.

Themed with deep blue sea with a touch of elegance, during the opening gala, international models frequent the runway, modelling the latest collections from local fashion designers like Aden Yong, Keith Kee, Ranndy Goh, Samantha Chua and the 22-year-old Xue Kai.

Runway shows in the night include the latest fashion creations from Tanya Steven, a Malaysia-born Eurasian, who pursued her education at heath field School, Ascot, Berkshire. Tanya Steven become the one to watch when she made her phenomenal and inspiring debut at the recent London Fashion Week. With her unique interpretation of style, Tanya Steven’s collection tells a darkly Romanticist tale along the friction between love and decay, lyrical wonder and vices, forest nights and youth culture.

The opening gala night pushes the limits by combining couture and motorsport galore, and has evolved to become an extravagant charity event. There was a fashion auction on the night with Tanya Steven’s collection came under the hammer. All the proceeds from the auction will be channeled to The Penang Home.

On 24th April, there will be a runway show by Xue Kai, who is the youngest amongst the local fashion designers. He is definitely one of the most promising fashion designers in the industry as he has the ability to mesmerise audience with his futuristic designs that have an avant-garde essence to them. Next up will be a hair show by Hairstory and follow by fashion show by Ecco and Kenneth Cole. Worth to mention, this will be Kenneth Cole’s first apparel runway show in Penang.

Although fashion week is all about showcasing the latest clothing and trends from the local fashion designers, it is also a good opportunity for the college students exhibit their fashion artworks to the audience. the time, Gurney Paragon Mall has collaborated with Equator College to present the audiences with a shin feast on 25th April, which will start at 1pm. Moving ahead will be runway shows by Debenhams, LOGO and Samantha Chua.

On the last day of the Penang Fashion Week, the audiences will be entertained with fad from My Dream Wedding, Number Three and Keith Kee. Aden Yong will conclude the night with his modern luxury and uncompromised quality of fashion masterpieces.

Throughout the week from 18th to 26th April, there will be a series of activities, campaigns, and contests.
