GEORGETOWN, April 24 – Penang’s Pakatan Rakyat-led (PR) government will cost Penang additional money this year because of added expenses to state infrastructure works after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and this also would be the first supplementary budget to be tabled under his rule, Lim Guan Eng said today.
“I hope we don’t have to table it but if worse come to worse, it will be the first time in history that we table a complementary budget due to the extra expenses incurred by paying GST,” he said. According to Lim, the state will have to spend an additional RM16.3 million in taxes because of the GST, he added.
Besides that, CM Lim said it was a huge amount comprising some 2% of the state budget of some RM800 million. He said the amount does not include GST on projects by local councils and government agencies such as the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) and Penang Development Corporation.
In the same time, Penang state government will organise an anti-GST rally on May 1 at the Seberang Jaya Expo and the rally will start at 5pm. Lastly, Lim added said they will be involve all non-governmental organisations.
