DONGGUAN, April 27 – The former coach of China’s top badminton player Lin Dan, Tang Xianhu, looks forward to seeing Malaysian badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei in action at the upcoming 2015 Sudirman Cup.
“We hope to see Chong Wei on court. With his participation, he will surely bring the game to a higher level and make it a more thrilling one,” the Indonesian-born Tang, who is also the Principal of Li Yongbo Badminton School and National Badminton Training Base, told a press conference here, Monday.
Chong Wei, 33, who received a backdated eight-month suspension for doping by Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Monday, will be eligible to return to the court on May 1. Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin said it was the Cordyceps capsules, a natural food product and a form of herbal supplement that Chong Wei has been taking since he was 13 years old that contained examethasone.
The former world number one badminton player was found to have consumed the banned substance dexamethasone while competing in the World Championship in Copenhagen, Denmark, in August last year. The 2015 Sudirman Cup will be held here from May 10 to 17.
