KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 – German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) welcomes its originator, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the institute’s Perdana Lecture Series entitled Youth and Nation Building at its campus in Kajang, near here Wednesday.
The lecture focuses on the recent Malaysia Education National Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education) that outlines 10 shifts that will be the impetus of continued excellence in the higher education system which includes quality technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates. Replying to a question on the current and future state of vocational and practical education in Malaysia, Mahathir said “We have made tremendous progress. We are way ahead than most other developing countries, but we cannot be satisfied.
We need to move forward and to move forward we need more educational institutions particularly vocational. We want our people to dirty our hands, to handle machinery and design them. We want our people to invent our own products to cater for the growing populations.” GMI was set up in order for Malaysians, when face with current problem or demands, can meet the demands by resorting to technology, said Mahathir.
Also present at the lecture are Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Managing Director of GMI Yusoff Mohd Sahir, its board of directors, Ambassador Holger Wilfried Michael and Datuk Muhammad Feisol Hassan, among others and GMI’s management team. GMI Perdana Lecture Series, organised on a semesterly basis, serves to expose students and provides opportunity for the students to share ideas and moments with Malaysia s respectable figures.
