LABUAN, May 2 – The sea transportation from Labuan to the mainland Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei continues to improve following the official launch of a new ferry Saturday. The ferry, “Goodwill Star” which was launched by Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli, made its maiden journey at 9.30am to Muara, Brunei and expected to reach Menumbok at 5.30pm.

The new ferry operated by Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd, in addition to another six ferries, namely Wawasan Perdana, Warisan Perdana, Kimanis 1, Putrajaya 1, Galaxy and Shuttle Hope is a boost to Labuan’s economy and tourism sector. Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Chin Hong Vui said the ferry would provide one trip daily each to Menumbok and Muara, Brunei with a capacity to carry over 100 vehicles and some 500 passengers per trip. “We hope there is no more rush and panic-buying of ferry tickets which usually happens during the year-end holiday season,” he said.
