KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 – Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai hoped the Malaysian Buddhist community will continue to follow the ways of Buddha and journey closer to enlightenment.
Liow, who is also MCA president, said the teachings of Buddhism, which were tenets for a strong community, namely, to strive for peace and to perform good deeds, would permeate in the society.
“Discriminatory remarks and hate mongering seems to appear more frequently. This is of great worry to me personally, and I am sure many Malaysians share in this collective concern that such acts can really jeopardise the fabric of our society.
“As Malaysia matures as a nation, we must go beyond tolerance, above all, there must be a better acceptance of all our differences,” he said today in his Wesak Day message entitled ‘Unite in harmony for a moderate Malaysia’. His message was made available to Bernama. Buddhists in Malaysia will celebrate Wesak Day, tomorrow.
