KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 – Racial and religious tolerance practiced in Malaysia has been the basis for the peace and stability in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. In his message in conjunction with Wesak Day which will be celebrated tomorrow, Muhyiddin said respecting and protecting the feelings and sensitivities of the people is the key to harmonious relations between people of all races and religions in the country.
Inviting all citizens to continue to respect the diversity of cultures and religions and strengthening unity among the people, he said this unity in diversity had made Malaysia a model country. “Therefore, avoid any act or action which can be considered insulting the customs, culture or religion of a people as this will cause discord.
“Such a spirit should be maintained and strengthened, especially among the younger generation,” he said. The uniqueness of Malaysia’s diversity, he said had become a strength to the country so much so Malaysia became peaceful and prosperous. Muhyiddin and his family also took the opportunity to wish Happy Wesak Day to all Buddhists in the country.
