PERMATANG PAUH, May 4 – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has refused to answer pertinent questions raised by Penanti State Assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin at the state legislative assembly. He said the state speaker should instead, answer those questions. Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, insisted the speaker, Law Choo Kiang should be the one to be referred to, as the issue involved the motions rejection.
“You are asking the wrong person. (If the matter is related to motions), you should ask the speaker…he is the one who makes the decision,” he said when asked to comment on the matter, by a reporter at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat daily conference, in conjunction with the Permatang Pauh by-election, at Yayasan Aman here Monday.
The by-election on May 7, sees a four-cornered fight involving Suhaimi Sabudin (Barisan Nasional), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR), Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Isahak (Independent). The election is held after the Board of Pardons rejected a royal clemency petition requested by former member of parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through his family members, resulting in his disqualification as representative of the people. Anwar is serving a five-year prison sentence for sodomy conviction.
