GEORGE TOWN, May 15 – A group of Kampung Bagan Ajam resident held a peaceful demonstration to seek the state government’s to intervention in an issue of pertaining their land which now been earmarked for a luxury home project here today at Penang State Legislative Assembly building.
“The issue was started in 2013, there was more than 50 families received a court notice over the sale of their land to a developer. We was unhappy over the compensation of RM7,500 to RM40,000 given by the developer which is insufficient to buy a low-cost unit in the state that they regarded as not in keeping with current market value ,” said Ramenthan a representative of the residents.
We also told the developer before that we wanted a house to move but they wanted to compensate us. Besides that, the developer also does not commensurate the amount of our current houses price. We feel persecuted. We have applied to meet Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng but we was not received any response. So, we have planned today for this peaceful demonstration that just a only things that we can do,” he added.
