GEORGETOWN, May 24 – Around 20,000 local and foreign cosplayer enthusiasts filled the Esplanade Field here in conjunction with the Penang Anime Matsuri Summer Party 2015 that started here yesterday. This event was Official Launch by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in this evening.
This event was the first time ever in South East Asia, SOZO and Penang Global Tourism with the support of the Penang State and the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang which brings the fun and excitement of Japanese Pop Culture through Anime and Cosplay at both indoor and outdoor in Dewan Sri Pinang and Esplanade Field.
Meanwhile, this event is also a part of the endless celebrations of Visit Penang 2015 and Tourism Malaysia themed ‘Year of Festival’ that showcase all our vibrant and exciting festivals including religious, cultural and arts which will happening throughout the year. Penang aspires to be an international and intelligent city that is hospitable to not just only local but also the international community.
“We have counted the Japanese as amongst the most ardent supporter of Penang. We are proud that when our government was formed in 2008, there were just 1,500 long-term Japanese residents but now onwards, there was 2,700 strong vote of confidence for Penang that is clean, green, safe and healthy,” said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
“Besides that, there were also another very strong reason all of people love Penang is our guarantee of freedom, not just freedom to express yourself but also freedom to fulfil the potential freedom to be the best that people want to be and most important of all is the freedom will make people dreams come true. That is also our Penang Dream,” CM Lim added.
