GEORGETOWN, May 31 – Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) is targeting 13 million Chinese to study the Malay Language online through the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) application within the next five years. “The target that we set was inline with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed with the Open University Malaysia two weeks ago,” said Chairman of DBP Board of Governors, Professor Datuk Seri Dr. Md Salleh Yaapar.
“There are currently six universities in China had started offering Malay Language studies as part of their courses. So, I hope that Education Ministry would help to widen the concept of learning through MOOCs in an effort to empower the Malay Language. Meanwhile, USM would be further enhance to use Malay Language in their publication of science, medical and engineering books,” said Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Omar Osman.
