GEORGETOWN, Jun 30 – Cigarette Smoke-Free Penang will be started by tomorrow July 1. Smokers may be banned from smoking indoors or in public of the heritage areas but they may light up in designated smoking areas. Violators will be fined RM5,000 or RM10,000 or two years jail. 

The original fine was from RM250 and now has been increased to RM5,000 or RM10,000. It will be a heavy burden on the people who not in high salary to pay the ticket. There was around 200 members of a traditional coffee shop but it just only 20 smoking area in the considerable range of Penang Heritage City. It was not enough smoking area for the smokers at there.
