PUTRAJAYA, July 30 – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam announced the minimum prices for the cigarettes will be increased from RM7 to RM9 a packet which will bginning this Saturday (Aug 1). The decision to increased the price of cigarettes was made after the meeting of the Steering Committee for the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) which had held on today.
“The prices of the cigarettes will be increased to RM10 a pack by Aug 1, 2016. In the same time, we also would like to announced two new regulations which had involving in the smoking-prohibited zones who named public areas and air-conditioned eating areas. The public parks except open parking areas will be gazetted as smoking-prohibited places which it will be started from Jan 1, 2016,” said Dr Subramaniam after chairing the meeting at his ministry here.
“In fact, several public places such as camping sites, observation towers, canopy bridges in 35 National Parks and all air-conditioned eating places was also been declared as smoking-prohibited areas. Besides that, we also revoked all the smoking areas in the third of air-conditioned eating places that under Regulation 21. Lastly, the enforcement of the smoking that had been banned in public and national parks will be carried out by forest rangers and related authorities,” he added
