KUALA KUBU BAHARU, Aug 3 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also the UMNO president instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to step up the enforcement to check the dissemination of slander on social media. There were also present were Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar and Hulu Selangor UMNO Division chief Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan.
“If there have any slander from the social media was allowed to fester due to it will alter the thinking paradigm of their audiences and also create a state of ‘trial by social media’. We as a members of the administration will be declared guilty before trial when we are faced with trial by social media,” said Najib when he was attended to the opening on the Hulu Selangor UMNO Division delegates meeting.
“The government can’t obstruct the progress of technology but will also not giving the absolute freedom to the extent that unreal things were turned into the real things. Meanwhile, UMNO should also become an active social media practitioner with having a specific programme to change the perception of the people,” said Najib.
“We need to understand the situation when we are faced with the attacks in the cyberspace to better position our party. As a party members of UMNO, we should come up with the strategies which to attract the support of the people. Not just only be intoxicated in a person’s self-satisfaction when implementing of any programme,” he said.
“I would like to ensure that the new Cabinet ministers delivered effective service to the people. Besides that, I also had been expressed support for his leadership by the UMNO members in the three states which namely Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor that I had so far visited. I do appreciation for the support and will bring the nation greater success,” he added.
