GEORGE TOWN, Aug 6 – Chairman of Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community YB Chong Eng hold a press conference Wednesday during she was attended the dinner about the tournament at Red Rock Hotel said that there were a total of 105 participants and seven countries including Malaysia have started to compete in the annual tournament open Woodball sport which takes place from August 6 until August 8.
“Penang will be organising the first 18th Woodball Malaysian Open International Championships which will be take place at the Padang Polo, Jalan Sepoy Lines. I hope that this tournament will be regularly held in Penang as Penang has a good facilities for the success of any international sports event,” said YB Chong Eng.
“Given this woodball championship which is also a sport that was introduced in Penang. It will provide an opportunity to the people of this country to start playing and develop this sport in Penang. Besides that, I also hoped that sports will be contested at the Games woodball Asia Pacific Masters Games, which is expected to be held in Penang in 2018,” she added.
“The opportunity to host the games woodball also allow the association to continue to develop the sport across the country. Besides athletes woodball of Penang, Pahang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur, woodball athletes from countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Uganda and China will also compete in the championship which is divided into a number of events,”Deputy President of the Association of Penang Woodall Ahmad Khosaini Abu Itam.
“Events will be contested are the men and women, private men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles events, men and women. Woodball sports tournament was organized versama Woodball Association of Penang, recognized by the Penang State Government and endorsed by the Association of Asia Woodball,” he added.
