GEORGE TOWN, Sept 3 – The Penang State Government proposes to turn the historic district Boey at Lebuh Pasar Prangin as Penang Heritage Art District in 2018. Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the signing of the agreement and the launch of “Sia Boey: Reborn Project ‘ which will be held on Sunday.
“Penang State Government had earlier announced that the redevelopment project would cost about RM100 million. At the event, the Penang state government will sign an agreement with the Penang Ilham sponsor public art museum which is expected to cost RM30 million while the remainder will be channeled Penang Development Corporation,” he told reporters here on Wednesday.
According to Lim, a well-worn storey heritage will be restored and it will put art galleries, studios, schools and other space-related work of restaurants and cafes. Project in an area of 2.2 hectares will see the shop and restaurant built before the war was restored and turned into an art gallery, studio, office and restaurant.
In conjunction with the launch, other art works will also be exhibited including accrued Art Association of Penang, Penang Brush Painting Association, Penang Association of Oil Paintings, Penang Urban Sketchers, Collection Batek-Lah, The Art Gallery and Gallery of Alyssa Khoo.
