GEORGE TOWN, Nov 14 – A ferry crew was injured when he was beaten by a group of men while the Penang ferry was docking at the Raja Tun Uda ferry terminal in Weld Quay here on last Wednesday. The incident happen at 9.45 pm while the 38-year-old man sustained injuries in the face and left rib after he was beaten with a helmet, feet and hands. He is treated as an out-patient.

“The ferry crew wanted to open the deck’s window when the ferry was about to dock and there was a group of 11 men there at that time. The ferry crew told them to leave the place as he wanted to close the deck’s window but he was pushed from behind by the group, who hit him with a helmet. he ferry crew tried to escape by running to the room of the officer on duty but the group of men chased and continued to beat him,” said Timur Laut District Police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid here on Friday.

Mior Faridalatrash said the incident was witnessed by the public and believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding between the crew and one of the men. He added that the ferry crew could not identify the men who attacked him and police are asking the public with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station to help in the investigation.
