GEORGE TOWN, Dec 16 – State Minister for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs of Penang, who is also the chairman of Halal Penang, Dato’ Abdul Malik Kassim announced on Tuesday that the 7th consecutive Penang International Halal Expo & Conference (PIHEC) will be held at the Subterranean Penang International Convention & Exhibition (sPICE) on
29 – 30 January next year.
In additional, the Halal Conference 2016 introduces “Exploring New Frontiers in Halal Agriculture” will also be happening at the Olive Tree Hotel Penang, adjacent to sPICE, on Saturday (January 30, 2016). PIHEC 7 has expanded its level to house more than 300 exhibitors of local and international halal industry players, marking their stands at both the Main Arena and Concourse of the sPICE.
Local entrepreneurs, companies as well as organizations and business associations will represent the arena of PIHEC 7 together with international business players and organizations from Europe and across Asia whom have set their sights for the three-day exposition at the sPICE.
The Penang International Halal Chef Challenge, being the third consecutive event in conjunction with PIHEC, will witness greater number of participants ranging from amateur to professional level from across the nation together with local and internationally renowned judges from Southeast Asia strutting their stuffs to select the best of the best from here and across the nation.
The greatest highlight of PIHEC which started this year, returns next January. Besides that, the World Curry Festival which established in Bradford United Kingdom for the past five years had also sets to enhance its branding for the second time at the sPICE in conjunction with PIHEC with an array of culinary masterpiece that will surely captivate the hearts of many.
This prestigious event promotes uniquely diversed gastronomy through tantalising cuisine servings and demonstration culminating curry and spices from around the world to be featured by some of the world renowned masterchefs. The event’s 2nd series at PIHEC will include gastronomic theatre, world street food and culinary school.
The Main Arena and Concourse sets to become a centrestage of gastronomic fusion of Western Masterchefs and Eastern Spice Kings. The World Curry Festival was initiated by The Honourable Dato’ Abdul Malik Kassim when the Minister met with its founder Mr Zulfi Karim and they got together to discuss the idea of promoting Malaysian food to the world, in UK earlier last year.
Other exciting programmes during the three days include business opportunities and trainings for entreprenuers and industry players, seminars on halal certification and standards, cooking demo’ by local celebrity chefs, products showcases, stage performances and lots more.
In the meantime, the academia as well as captains of the industry and business players will also be set to converge in this strategic platform to discuss and propel of the momentum of collective action towards the establishing food security and sustainable agriculture.
The conference will discuss the potential of halal industry as a new source of economic growth and addressing the global challenges associated to the sector.
