KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will continue its proceedings on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by summoning the company’s chairman and ex-chairman in January. 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin will be called on Jan 19 and the company’s former chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh a day later.
“If there is a need, they would recall 1MDB’s former president and chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Halmi to help complete the investigations. PAC has also given time to the National Audit Department to complete the Final Audit report which is expected to be tabled by the Auditor-General to the Committee, at the latest by the end of February next year,” said PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin in his statement Friday.
Earlier Friday, 1MDB president and executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy appeared before PAC for the second time to give further explanation in respect to 1MDB. Hasan said the proceeding lasted for about three hours in which Arul Kanda presented 1MDB’s debt rationalisation plan to the committee. He said he had satisfied with Arul Kanda’s explanation on Friday. Arul Kanda was previously summoned by PAC on Dec 1, while Shahrol Azral was called the day before.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said no audit report draft on 1MDB had been prepared so far. Referring to recent media reports on Wall Street Journal’s article containing allegations against 1MDB linking it with the National Audit Department’s audit report draft on 1MDB, Ambrin explained that the audit report was still underway. The PAC is probing 1MDB over its dealings.
