IGP: Action Can Be Taken Against Motorists Who Refuse To Adhere To Police Outriders’ Instruction

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 20 – Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today stressed that action can be taken against motorists who refused to adhere to instructions given by police outriders accompanying a VVIP convoy. He said the motorists could face the action under the Penal Code for obstructing public officers in discharging their duty and also under the Police Act 1967.

“There is a discussion (by certain quarters) that invites the public not to adhere to police outriders accompanying a VVIP convoy. I hereby advise road users to adhere to instructions given by police outriders because there’s a reason why they are accompanying the VVIP, with safety being the main reason,” he told reporters after receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Leadership from Limkokwing University here Saturday.

“This in response to a recent posting by a motorist about not giving way to a VVIP convoy which went viral on social media. The IGP also urged social media users to stop playing the issue. I request you to stop this. It won’t bring any good. You just invite people for the lawlessness,” said Khalid.

On the racial protest mounted by Ali Tinju in front of the Kotaraya building in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, Khalid said action under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 could be taken against the man if he was found to have violated the law. Ali Tinju or his real name Mohd Ali Baharom was alleged to have uttered racial remarks during the protest.

“Meanwhile, the Attorney-General’s Chambers should not be blamed for it’s decision not to file sedition charges against Ali Tinju over earlier racial brawl at Low Yat Plaza. It’s not fair to blame us. I have explained that the video recording of Ali Tinju is not enough to charge him with sedition. If the evidence is sufficient, I would have filed the charge,” said Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.
