Wedding Ceremony Turns Tragic In Labuan



LABUAN, Dec 20 – A wedding ceremony turned tragic when a ‘Silat’ performer was accidentally killed during the performance at Kg Patau-Patau on Saturday. The 17-year-old college student, identified as Mohd Amil Zulkarnain was performing Silat with his cousin, also 17, at about 11.30 am when the incident happened.

“While performing the Silat during the wedding ceremony, the deceased was stabbed right at the chest with a ‘keris’ and seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital immediately; however he was not able to be saved and died hours later,” Labuan deputy police chief DSP Ibrahim Mohd Ghani told reporters Sunday.

The ‘assailant’ was subsequently arrested and detained to facilitate investigations under Section 304 of the Penal Code, (causing death by negligence). Meanwhile, police arrested 12 people in a crime preventive operation conducted between 1 am and 4 am today.

Ibrahim said there were 11 people which including eight women were detained for not having valid travel documents and one, for alleged drug abuse. In the meantime, he also said that a total of 257 summonses were also issued to motorists for flouting traffic rules.
