PASIR PUTEH, Dec 21 – Kelantan government needs to provide a temporary site to house more than 60 market traders in Selising town who had their shops gutted in a fire Saturday. State UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said it was up to the state government to find a suitable location either near the existing site or not.
In the meantime, he also said that this is because land matter is under the jurisdiction of the state government. He told this to the reporters after visiting the market Sunday. In the 7pm incident, more than 60 traders lost their source of income when the fire destroyed their shops.
Mustapa, who is also the International Trade and Industry Minister said, the federal government would try to get the allocation of between RM2 million and RM3 million for the reconstruction of the market. Mustapa said the federal government would also obtain compassionate fund to assist the affected traders. He said the estimated loss was between RM500,000 and RM1 million. The market was built by the federal government in the 1980s.
