GEORGE TOWN, Dec 23 – Penang State Government is pleased to provide the remuneration of RM24,000 to each person, Penang Wushu Athletes Chan Lu Yi and Penang Badminton Athletes Goh Jin Wei, under the Victory Sports Incentive Scheme of the State Government of Penang (SKIMAS).
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng hold a press conference on Tuesday said that the both Penang-born has been successful title of World Champion in their respective sports. The Penang Wushu athletes, Chan Lu Yi, 18, won the gold medal at the World Wushu Championships 13th in Jakarta, Indonesia in taijiquan on 16 November 2015.
World Wushu Championships 13th Jakarta, Indonesia in 2015 was organized by the International Wushu Federation in cooperation with the Indonesian Wushu Association was held on 14 to 18 November 2015 at the Utama Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Senayan.
Besides that, Goh Jin Wei, 15, had also made the history as the first Malaysian women’s singles players who were champions at the World Junior Badminton Championships in Lima, Peru on November 15 this year. Players ranking fifth world junior beat compatriot Lee Ying Ying, 18 in the second set (21-15, 21-16) in 35 minutes.
“Both of these young athletes have begun to engage in the sport of their choice at a very young age. Goh Jin Wei started playing badminton at the age of 6 years, while Lu Yi Chan had began playing in wushu at the age of 7 years. At that time, they did not undergo serious training, but, because of their evident enthusiasm and talent, and with the support of their parents, the latent potential dressed up to the highest level,” Lim said.
“Their achievements, the Penang State Government is pleased to provide the remuneration of RM24,000 to each person under the SKIMAS. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to the parents of athletes because their loved ones have served the State of Penang. In the meantime, I hopes that all the young athletes Penang will continue to draw constant victory in the future,” he added.
