Car Wash Businessman Was Charged With Insulting JPJ Officer



GEORGE TOWN, Dec 31 – A car wash businessman was pleaded not guilty on the charge in a magistrate’s court here today which are issuing the verbal abuse to the officials of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) on November. Syed Amen Jainul Abdin, 44, from Jalan Macallum, was charged with outraging the modesty of JPJ officer Asymal Mansur, 41, by uttering offensive words outside the lobby of JPJ branch in Batu Uban, Gelugor here at around 4.45pm on Nov 26.

He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of five years or a fine, or both, if convicted. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Azura Zulkiflee offer bail of RM4,000 with one surety, but lawyer Rosli Ismail, who represented the accused asked the court to bail on the grounds that his client have been very cooperative during the investigation.

“The purpose of bail is to ensure the presence of the accused in court. I had to make sure my client was present in court today and I would like to stress that he can present to the court. Meanwhile, I would like to ask for a lower bail to my client as he has follow the police order to present in the court here today,” says Rosli.

Syed Amen was then allowed bail of RM3,000 with one surety by Magistrate L. Umma Devi after mitigation by his counsel Rosli Ismail. The case which was prosecuted by DPP Noor Azura Zulkiflee had also fixed Feb 17 next year for mention for the submission of documents.
