HUTAN MELINTANG, Dec 31 – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has contributed RM900,000 worth of school items to about 4,000 students in eight states in conjunction with the ‘Back to School’ programme this year. Perak TNB general manager, Datuk Zahir Md Nagor said the programme was implemented in 16 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Penang and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
In the meantime, he also said that the initiative was one of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes of TNB in the education sector which that was to reduce the financial burden of the less fortunate in the preparation for the new school session.
“The school items are given to deserving recipients aged seven to 12. Each student receives a set of school uniform, shoes and socks, a school bag and stationery worth RM225,” he said at a press conference on the sidelines of the programme held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang, here, Wednesday.
Officiating at the event was chief special officer to the deputy prime minister, Datuk Khairuddin Tarmizi, representing Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Meanwhile, in the Bagan Datoh constituency, 200 students from 14 schools received the contribution, worth a total of RM45,000.
