GEORGE TOWN, Jan 14 – The Deputy Public Prosecutor had decided to release the Indonesian woman who joking that there was a bomb in his luggage at the Penang International Airport here on Wednesday, due to not enough evidence to charge her. 

Southwestern district police chief Supt Lai Fah Hin said the the 32-year-old woman who wants to check in to the Lion Air flight from Penang International Airport to Kuala Lumpur at 9.45am was released with a stern warning after the deputy public prosecutor’s office decided against charging her.

“However, the woman was released because there was not enough evidence to charge her but she was given a stern warning and the case has been classified as NFA (no further action) on the order of the Deputy Public Prosecutor,” he told reporters here on Thursday.

The incident happened at 9.20am on Wednesday, the woman was detained by the police after she told the inspection counter staff that there was a bomb in her luggage when she was checking into her flight. The initial scan on baggage does not indicate the presence of objects bomb while the 32-year-old woman later admitted that she was just joking.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi told reporters after the monthly meeting at police headquarters in Penang here to advise people not to issue bombing intimidation or threat related. He also urge the public not to make a bomb threat to mention particularly in strategic areas and public places such as airports and shopping malls, even angry or just a prank.

“The impact of that action is quite large and cause annoyance to the public. Those who act may be detained, investigated and if the case convicted, it will be charged in court. Meanwhile, the investigation can be also carried out in accordance with Section 506 of the Penal Code and if convicted can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to seven years or both,” he said.
