JKR: Upgraded Bayan Lepas Expressway To Open To Traffic In June
GEORGE TOWN, Feb 3 – The construction of the RM337 million Bayan Lepas Expressway (BLE) project as a link to the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge will be opened to traffic in early June. Works Department (infrastructure sector) deputy director-general Datuk Dr Roslan Md Taha said physical construction of the connecting link was now 92 per cent completed and final touch ups would commence in April.
“The construction on upgrading BLE was now in the final stage with the installation of pillars 19 and 20 of the main structure and the opening of the highway was expected to ease traffic from Batu Maung to Sungai Nibong. We hope BLE upgrading is completed and open to traffic earlier than its target in June to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours in the industrial area,” he told reporters after a ceremony to connect the final segment of viaduct for the BLE upgrading project here yesterday.
