KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 – UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein wants everyone involved in the political crisis in Kedah to close ranks and focus on the interests and welfare of the state and its people, especially in the challenging economic situation currently.
When commenting on the latest political developments in Kedah, Hishammuddin, who is also the Defence Minister, said he hoped that solidiarity at all levels could be strengthened. He said thankfully, all quarters have given their best cooperation to resolve the political crisis in Kedah. He said thus in his latest entry in his Facebook website, here on Thursday.
Bakar Bata State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was sworn in as the new Kedah Menteri Besar at Istana Anak Bukit, in Alor Setar. This followed the announcement on the resignation of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir as the Menteri Besar after having lost the majority support of the assemblymen in the state.
The Kedah political crisis began when almost the whole Kedah UMNO leadership expressed their loss of confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership as the Menteri Besar and Chairman of the Kedah UMNO Liaison Body on Jan 20. Commenting further, Hishammuddin said the people of Kedah would certainly place high hopes on Ahmad Bashah, 66, who is the 12th Menteri Besar of Kedah.
