GEORGW TOWN, Feb 11 – A businessman was shot dead outside a shop lot along Jalan Dato Keramat here earlier this morning. Syed Amen Jainul Abdin, 46, the owner of a car wash and Nasi Kandar restaurant, was found shot to dead in the driver’s seat of a Mercedes-Benz around 3.30am. Police investigating the case say two assailants on a motorcycle had fired shots a point blank range.
Local news network, Astro Awani reported Penang Crime Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad as saying that preliminary investigations determined that the victim had died at the scene from five gunshot wounds to the head and torso. The body of victim was sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The businessman was accused of harassing a JPJ officer and was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code. Before being charged in court, Amen had released a videos in which he expressed his grouses over the Batu Uban Road Transport Department (RTD). It went viral on social media after it was shared by the Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign. He had pleaded not guilty at the magistrate’s court here for swearing at a RTD officer.
