MCMC Blocks The Malaysian Insider
CYBERJAYA, Feb 25 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has blocked access to The Malaysian Insider’s portal for allegedly producing content that violated Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
MCMC in a statement posted on its Facebook page today said the ban on the portal was based on complaints and information received from the public. As such, it said the MCMC warned news portals not to disseminate or publish unverified articles. It said this is because such an action can invite confusion and trigger an undesired situation. It said this in a statement here today.
