Malaysia’s Ex-PM Mahathir quits UMNO Again



KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 29 – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has quit the ruling party UMNO, with immediate effect and this will be his second time quitting from Umno when he left in May 2008 previously. He said he want to leave UMNO, because it is no longer UMNO that he know. He said  UMNO only defend Najib. He said this on Monday as he announced his exit at a news conference. 

“I feel quite embarrassed by what happened to Umno. Although many people say I left because of my son, but it is not the true. I feel proud I finally would resign. Only Najib’s supporters have the opportunity in the team. I feel desperate with Najib party,” he said during the press conference.

When asked Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will join the new party, he do not answer it. He said he ensure that Najib will not be Prime Minister on this time. He said he not sure that there are still members of parliament will not agree with Najib as they were in fear.

“The decision to leave Umno also participated by Tun Siti Hasmah. I will also have a meeting with representatives of the opposition is focused on the issue of lowering Najib as PM. No other matters were discussed. The decision to leave Umno not discussed with anyone. Related rally, I will go the event if I’m invited,” Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad added.
