GEORGE TOWN, March 3 – Penang Gerakan urged Penang State Government to reveal full plan of Gurney Wharf which planned reclamation project at the Gurney Drive seafront. The party’s state youth chief Hng Chee Wey noted that the overall Phase 2A of Sri Tanjong Pinang at the shore of Gurney Drive land reclamation package covers 131 acres, but the are of the Gurney Wharf project only covers for 60 acres.

“I very support this 60 acres park-in-the-city concept. We has no intention to oppose it. We just want to know if the park-in-the-city concept just cover 60 acres of 131 acres of reclaimed land under Phase 2A of Sri Tanjong Pinang reclamation project. What will state government plans to do with the balance 71 acre of the reclamation lands,” he told a press conference at Gurney Drive today.

He said in fact every inch of land in Penang belongs to the people of Penang, therefore the people of Penang, especially those staying within the belt from Gurney Drive to Tanjong Bungah have the inherent rights to know the overall plans for this 131 acres Phase 2A Sri Tanjong Pinang land reclamation project and not only the 60 acres of Gurney Wharf project.

“I believes the Gurney Wharf project may only be the ‘sugar coating’ for the 131 acres Phase 2A Sri Tanjong Pinang project. Any later unpleasant or unexpected plans adverse to the interests of the people for the balance of the lands will be too late for the people to raise their protest of objection,” Hng said.

In the meantime, Hng also urged state government to elaborate on what it has planned to use for the 23.93 acres of state government reserved land out of the 60 acres of the reclamation land. Also present were Penang Gerakan Youth Secretary, Ooi Zhi Yi and other Gerakan youth member.
