IPOH, March 8 – Gopeng UMNO has called on the government to immediately strip former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of all positions he holds in government-linked companies (GLCs). The call was made by the division head Datuk Hamzah Mohd Kasim following Dr Mahathir’s move to lead 50 people to sign a declaration calling for the removal of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as Prime Minister.

“The former prime minister’s decision to be in cohorts with the opposition was simply for his personal interest. Dr Mahathir must be immediately stripped of whatever positions he holds, including as Chairman of Proton, Petronas Advisor, and Chairman of the Perdana Leadership Foundation,” Hamzah said.

“We are very disappointed with the action of Dr Mahathir, former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and former Gopeng UMNO Women’s head Datuk Hamidah Osman who signed the Mahathir Declaration,” he said in a press statement here Monday.

Others who signed the declaration last Friday were Lim Kit Siang from DAP and Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohamed Azmin Ali Meanwhile in LARUT, the UMNO division head Faizul Arby Mohd Shohor described UMNO members who signed the declaration as unseen enemies who jeopardised the stability of the party and country.

In the meantime, Faizul Arby also urged the Supreme Council and the UMNO disciplinary committee to take stern action against all those who were in cohorts with the opposition and expressed UMNO Larut’s support for Najib’s leadership.
