KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – A star rating system will be introduced for ‘Rukun Tetangga’ (neighbourhood watch) (RT) to enhance its image and identity, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup. He said the system was part of the transformation process by the National Unity and Integration Department for RT as a social institution that could help the government to develop the country.
He said that the system will make community service more effective and he also hope that this opportunity will be welcomed by all RT. He said this at the 1Malaysia Rukun Tetangga Gathering 2016 at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, here, Saturday. The event was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
As of December 2015, Kurup said there were 4,751 Volunteer Patrol Scheme (SRS) under the RT with 190,040 members. Besides SRS, other community components under RT include Community Mediator, ‘Cawangan Jiran Wanita’, ‘Cawangan Jiran Muda’, Unity Squad, ‘Cawangan Jiran Usia Emas’ and ‘Cawangan Tunas Jiran’.
