KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – President of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will undertake a two-day official visit to Malaysia beginning Monday. The Foreign Ministry Wisma Putra in a statement yesterday said the visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be the president’s inaugural visit since assuming his post in Nov 2013.
Abdulla Yameen will be accompanied by his wife, Madam Fathimah Ibrahim and senior officials from the president’s office and the republic’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. According to the statement, the official welcoming ceremony will be held on Tuesday morning at Perdana Square, Putrajaya.
During the visit, Najib and Abdulla Yameen will also hold a bilateral meeting that would provide the opportunities for both sides to review the existing of the relations and cooperation, as well as to identify the future of the collaboration in potential areas.
Malaysia and the Republic of Maldives enjoy warm and wide ranging substantive relations in various fields including education, tourism and technical assistance which have brought mutual benefits to both countries. The visit will provide a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation that would cement and elevate Malaysia and Republic of Maldives relations to greater heights.
