KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 – Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong came from the behind to knock out the world number 12, Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding of Denmark in the quarterfinals of the India Open Super Series.

The 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medal winning pair lost their first set 19-21 before winning the following sets 21-16, 21-13 against the fourth seeds in 58 minutes at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, yesterday. This is the second time both pairs met after the 14th ranked V Shem/Wee Kiong lost 15-21, 13-21 in the 2015 All-England to the Danish pair.

According to Badminton World Federation (BWF) website www.bwfbadminton.org, the pair, Malaysia’s only remaining hope in the tournament, will next meet the winners of the Gideon Fernaldi Markus/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia and Chen Hung-ling/Wang Chi-lin of Chinese Taipei tie in the semifinals on Saturday. Malaysia did not send representatives in both the women’s singles and doubles and also the mixed doubles events in the tournament which offers total prize money of US$300,000 (RM1.174 million).
